Since becoming a Labour Councillor, I have been very vocal on environmental issues. In July 2019 my motion to phase out single use plastics in the borough was passed with unanimous support.
In 2018 I drafted a Mental Health Charter which has now been adopted by the council – promoting good working practice and leading by example to break down stigmatisation and discrimination in the workplace.
On World Book Day 2019 I worked with Trees for Cities to introduce a copy of renowned nature book ‘The Lost Words’ into every primary school in Barking and Dagenham along with teaching resources that I crowdfunded for.
In 2020 I hope to launch a project called ‘Wild and Free in LBBD’ which is based on the Wildlife Trusts ’30 Days Wild’ and the National Trust’s 50 things to do before 11 3/4. The goal is to get families and young people to enjoy our open spaces and country parks and develop an appreciation of the natural world.
I have a strong record of delivery, and make a point of following up if I make a promise. I have developed a reputation in my ward as someone who gets things done. Something I am incredibly proud of.
